Howard Fenn

I believe the art of the designer-silversmith is the way in which form and function are interpreted. Function is nearly always my starting point. It is a launch pad for creativity not a restriction. My work embraces a range of materials and techniques to create unique contemporary silverware. The reflective qualities of silver and its depth and warmth of colour are one of its great characteristics. The challenge of how one handles this and exploits it is important. By combining silver with other materials such as slate, glass or wood, I find they are enhanced by the contrast. These combinations rely on the simplicity of line, geometry, balance and proportion, symmetry and asymmetry of form for their impact.
