Wally Gilbert is a silversmith and artist, whose work takes him into a number
of different fields, from printmaking to sculpture and decorative architectural
metal work, exploring ideas where they lead him.
In 2007 he was the winner of a competition to design and make a pair of
commemorative silver wine coolers for the British Jewellery and Giftware
Federation, for which he was awarded a Silver Award for 'Chasing' and two
Commendations for Modelling and Design by the Goldsmiths' Craft Council
in 2009. |

 |
William is inspired by the natural fluidity of liquids, and in his work often
experiments with how gravity defines the flow of liquids and the resulting
solid forms. This shows both in some of his finishes but also fundamentally
in the shapes of his work.
His work is clearly influenced by his interest in sculpture, which he followed
by taking a sculptural foundation course at Exeter University in 2000, and
later working in studio with renowned sculptor Anthony Gormley. |
