Lynn Chadwick, 1914-2003, Maquette IV Walking Cloaked Figures, 1978
Sterling Silver, Edition of 20, 9cm height
Lynn Chadwick is one of the giants of 20th century British sculpture. His
work spans 50 years and his work forms the cornerstone of many major
international sculpture collections.
Chadwick was one of very few artists who cast sculpture in silver in the late
1970s. He was encouraged by Danish silversmith Karl Gustav Hansen along
with Henry Moore and Kenneth Armitage to cast in what was considered a
highly unusual medium for sculpture. Chadwick so enjoyed working with
silver that he continued to experiment with the material and created a number
of small and medium-sized figurative sculptures that skillfully exploit the
innate qualities of silver to highlight texture and form. |
